My name is Rod, and I have always had an interest in health. Hence the name of this blog – RodsHealth. I trained as a pharmacist in the UK, but have not been practicing since 1984. I have been very much involved in reviewing, writing, and editing, pharmaceutical product-related articles, so I have been keeping up with what has been going on in my field. Because I have been paying attention to the side effects of pharmaceutical products, I have tended to try and use alternative treatments wherever possible. Not that they are for everyone.

The idea for RodsHealth started as a way of telling stories about health in general. Particularly with health care reform ranking fairly high on our list of concerns in the US at the moment, there is a need to take a balanced view of health care in general.

After a recent experience that included a brief stay in hospital, I am very much aware of some of the discussions around costs. The hospital charges for my stay came to $33,000, but the insurance company paid only a fraction of that. Did I need the ‘care’ I received? Some of it, certainly. But I was kept in longer than I needed to be because the test that the docs wanted me to have couldn’t be done during the weekend. So, some parts of this site will talk about Rod’s Health as it relates to me.

The site will also include posts about financial health, because I believe that lack of money leads to stress, which leads to general ill health.

Please enjoy this site, but remember that it is not intended as a substitute for professional advice. If you need a medical doctor, go to one. If you need a holistic medicine doctor, go to one. If you need a chiropractor, go to one. Before you go, you might want to check here for some of the latest thinking.
